Here are some of the most effective ways to stay clean and healthy in the vagina area:

  • Always wipe from front to back after going to the bathroom to help avoid any infection-causing bacteria
  • Wear cotton underwear as often as possible; as the fabric ‘breathes,’ which helps to keep things dry. It’s recommended switching into a clean pair if you find things are little moist down there
  • Avoid wearing tight fitting clothing (such as stockings, tights, synthetic leggings, or pantyhose) for long periods of time, since this might cause you to sweat and increase your chances of getting some nasty infections down there
  • Shower or bathe on a daily basis. If you play sport, it’s best to shower after because sports increase the quantity of sweat our bodies produce, and it’s essential to wash it all off when you’re done
  • Make sure you give yourself a good wash in the bath or shower with soap or shower gel and water. Clean under your armpits and around the vaginal region with a sponge or washcloth
  • Before getting out of the bath/shower, make sure all soap is washed off; any soap remaining on the skin can cause it to dry out and become itchy.
  • Keep your vagina clean by washing the outside areas daily. As the inside parts (where you put a tampon) have their own cleaning system
  • To avoid severe infections, change your pads and tampons on a regular basis
  • Finally, never spray deodorant over your vaginal area — deodorant contains chemicals that can alter the PH levels down there, which can make you uncomfortable

Your friends might use other products to feel cleaner, such as douches and sprays for feminine hygiene. These things can cause issues, so only use them if your doctor has recommended them.

Any mucus that comes out of your vagina that isn’t urine or your period is called vaginal discharge and it’s normal to notice some clear or slightly milky discharge in your undies. Wearing liners will protect your undies against any vaginal discharge. If your discharge changes to yellow or green in colour and you experience irritation or burning, you may have an infection and should consult a doctor.

Female hygiene isn’t complicated, but it is something that we should be aware of. As we get older, our bodies begin to let off distinct odours from the glands under our armpits and around our pelvic area. It’s simple to sort the odours out; simply shower every day and put some deodorant in your bag if it bothers you. When it comes to your vagina, every girl has her own distinct odour, but it’s not anything anyone else will notice (we guarantee!).
