Are You Tired of People Peeking at Your Computer?

There’s nothing worse than being sprung checking your Facebook at work, right? Maybe. Other than being caught doing things other than work in the workplace, there are more serious privacy issues.

Some things you don’t want others seeing, especially if you’re in a public space such as a café or airport lounge. In these instances, a privacy filter can protect your computer screen from prying eyes.

If privacy is less of an issue than dry, red eyes from staring at a screen all day, then an anti-glare filter is a more appropriate choice. If you’ve tried most of the popular solutions; shifting the window blinds, changing the angle of your laptop or monitor in relation to light sources, adjusting the brightness of the LCD screen or even increasing the font size on the screen, then a longer-term solution is in order.

Privacy Filter

Do you ever feel like someone is watching over your shoulder when you are working on your computer or laptop? Whether you are in the office, on public transport, or in meetings, privacy screen filters are an easy way of protecting your private and confidential work. And yes, you can check your private email securely too – not that we condone that kind of behaviour!

A privacy computer screen appears as a solid wall of colour from the side but remain crystal clear to the computer user. The Kensington Privacy Filter blacks out the screen entirely from sideways vision but keeps it clear and undistorted to the user. For a more glamorous option, the 3M screen filter provides a gold wall of protection, with the same sharp text and images maintained for the user.

Sure View

Sure View is a built-in electronic privacy screen which darkens the screen at the touch of a button. It reduces light by 95% when the screen is viewed from an angle, providing instant privacy from curious busybodies around you.

Designed by HP and 3M brands, their integrated privacy screen helps to reduce visual hacking and liminates the need to stick an additional privacy filter onto your screen, as a one-touch system obscures the view from prying eyes.

Sure View is integrated with selected HP EliteBook laptops and some 2 in 1 devices.

Anti-Glare Filters

When you are staring at a computer screen for most of your day, eye protection for your eyes is important and the short-term symptoms of eye fatigue (headaches, difficulty focusing and blurred vision) can make your life difficult.  An anti glare screen protector can help reduce glare and reflections in a wide variety of lighting conditions.

Screen protectors also come with the added benefit of protecting your screen from fingerprints, scratches and damages, and many are compatible with touch screens. They’re a great idea for reducing eye-strain without a hefty bill for a new set of prescription glasses.

How to fit a screen protector

This might seem a really obvious step, but sometimes the basic things are the most overlooked.

There are two types of screens: raised bezel and flat front. While flat screens are becoming more commonplace, many cheaper or older monitors still use the raised bezel style.

If you have a raised bezel screen, measure only within the viewable area. Flat screens can be measured from edge to edge.

Screen protectors from COS are easy to place and remove  and are available for computer monitor and laptop screens.
